The Nugent Jewelry Approach to Our Photography

Nugent Jewelry’s photo team is committed to capturing the essence of each piece as accurately as possible, so, what you see is exactly what you get.

We build partnerships with our clients based on honesty and integrity, and our commitment to our partners is for the long haul. We want you to be wowed by our products, but we want your enthusiasm to be real. We want you to be sure our products are superior and our quality and reputation are legit. So then, why would we share digitally altered photographs?

Jewelry can be a challenge to photograph for a variety of reasons——size, shiny reflective surfaces, and characteristics of a particular stone——all play a role in how we approach best capturing and showcasing each item. Proper lighting and exposure are key to preserving detail and capturing chatoyancy that some of our stones reveal in certain light.

Sure, there are plenty of people that photograph a piece of jewelry and retouch to perfection (and sometimes beyond…). The term “retouch” refers to the process of digitally altering an image to enhance its appearance. There are companies that specialize in retouching jewelry. Image editors can make all sorts of adjustments—from color correction to smoothing and polishing, removing fingerprints and even changing colors to make silver and gold shine brighter. Alterations might be even more dramatic such as adding definition or clarity to a gemstone or superimposing jewelry on models. Changes like this affect the natural properties of a given item, so how can you trust that what you see in a picture is what you’ll also see in person if you were to hold the same piece in your own hands?

How we are different

A lot of products (not just jewelry) that you see on the internet and in advertisements have been digitally altered in some way. And there are plenty of other jewelry websites that would like you to make a purchase based on a stock photo. That’s just not us.

Sure, we may retouch out a speck of lint that we missed on set, or make a slight correction to exposure or color temperature. But we intentionally resist making any adjustments that alter the natural properties of a piece. We want your high expectations to be met when you see the actual product in person. And we want your customers to see the real deal, too!

We’re a little tired of seeing jewelry on a plain white background. That’s why you’ll see our products photographed in nature, or in our studio along with natural elements. All of the models we work with are wearing the actual product you see in the photograph—no smoke and mirrors here!

Any imperfections or “inclusions ” are embraced. All of our gemstones are authentic, all natural, and one of a kind.

We like to share

We’re investing in an ever-growing digital library of photographs, videos, stone certifications, seasonal promotions, and more. As a Nugent Jewelry customer, you’ll have access to everything completely free for you to use in your advertising and promotional campaigns however you’d like.

We care about your input

Our photo team loves creating pretty pictures, but ultimately, we want to make sure that the content we’re making is useful to Nugent Jewelry’s customers. Did you know that as a customer, you can help us grow our digital library based on what you want to see and what you want to use as content? We’d love to hear what you need and always enjoy seeing how you use #nugentjewelry on social media. You can email your sales executive or the corporate office.
